The 25-seat coach has been wheelchair-modified and will allow students to head out into the community for a range of educational opportunities including excursions, sporting events and integration with other schools.
It’s been a long time coming: Forbes Public School has raised $45,000 towards the coach, and Variety contributed $68,000 to see it delivered to the school last Friday.
Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW Head of Regional Development Jason Bourke said every child deserved the chance to be involved in all aspects of school life.
“We are proud to help the students of Forbes Public School get involved in their community and take advantage of every opportunity available to them,” he said.
Mr Bourke said each coach they present to schools is modified based on the needs of the school’s community.
Forbes Public School principal Dafydd Thomas said the Sunshine Coach will allow students to access all that the community has to offer.
“The Sunshine Coach will give our students the ability to access vast experiences and take part in valuable learning opportunities across many settings,” he said.
“We are extremely grateful to Variety – the Children’s Charity for their generosity and support.”
Mr Thomas said the bus will support students for the foreseeable future and will be a tremendous asset that will enrich the lives of students.
Member of Forbes Public P and C committee Fleur Hurford said the coach would be a wonderful asset for the school and that they would like to thank Variety for their contribution.
Variety provides Sunshine Coaches for schools and organisations that cater for children living with disabilities, chronic illness, geographic isolation and financial hardship.
They also help provide facilities like all-access playgrounds and Liberty swings.
