The Men’s Health Education Rural Van is a Rotary project and has been touring country centres in NSW, it stopped at the Central West Livestock Exchange and in Harold Street.
Appointments are free with full-time Registered Nurse, Nicole Page, who conducted several quick and simple tests for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar levels.
Over the course of three days, Nicole conducted 45 tests, only seven of the people screened were recommended to see a doctor immediately.
The Rotary Club said the turn out for the first two days of health checks – while the bus was based at the Central West Livestock Exchange – saw lower numbers due to wet weather and a smaller yarding for Tuesday’s sheep sale.
The test recipients came from a range of occupations, with many of them being farmers and transport operators which are the target market for the caravan.
The Rotary Club said simple tests such as those offered could prevent deaths from serious, but treatable diseases.
The Rotary Club said they would like to thank Nicole Page for her dedication in her role and for the extra day she spent in Forbes providing health tests.
Currently, the caravan has been returned to Narromine for servicing and garaging while the tour is put on a Christmas break.
The tour will begin again in early February stopping at Gunnedah first.
