Wednesday at One: Last Wednesday we had 16 players all keen for a game. Ray Sanderson and Barry Shine combined well to take a 21:14 victory from Trevor Currey and Ray Dunstan. Merv Langfield and Pater Mackay were too accurate for Denis Byrnes and Cliff Nelson. Bill O’Connell, Kerry Dunstan and Rob Priest had a battle to finish six points ahead of Rex Toole, Col Breaden and John Kennedy. Then Brian Tisdell, Laurie Crouch and Alf Davies played to win and they did against Christian West, Jim McLuckie and Scott McKellar. The Wednesday at One bowls will continue with no days off. Whoever turns up will organise the draw as there are plenty of very capable gents in the group now.
Thursday arvo: Thursday arvo is as popular as ever with 24 keen last Thursday. John Baass and Glen Kearney won by three points against Bill Looney and Brian Asimus. Fred Vogelsang and Tony Bratton defeated Christian West and Lyall Strudwick by three points. Ron Symonds and Wayne Burton finished seven in front of Ernie Egan and Grant Lambert. Also finishing seven in front was Cherie Vincent and Viv Russell who defeated John Ashcroft and Al Phillips. Then there was Bobby Grant and Peter Mackay with a victory by ten points against Max Vincent and Billy Adams. Graeme Mowbray and Cliff Nelson had a big win against Merv Langfield and Peter Brogan. I guess the Thursday bowls will continue without any days off too.
Friday night: Well what can I say about Friday night bowls? The Rooster proclaimed himself Man of the Match, he also proclaimed the opposition’s Ann Walker as the Woman of the Match. Five rinks were in full swing and it was good to see Mel bring the kids along to help team Hazel and Field. Bring the kids down any time, any day, for a roll up over the holidays. We have a new kit of Junior Jack Attack which the kids will love. Just see Peter Mackay or one of the committee for details.
Sunday morning by John Stringer: Wow there was another big roll up of 32 bowlers playing the second round of the Bakehouse December Point Score. There were six bowlers with resting touchers; Peter Greenhalgh, Barry Anderson, Paul Hodge, Alan Smith, John Cutler and Peter Walker. The winning rink draw went to John Lasker and Graham West.
In the Bentick Trophy John Kennedy defeated Scott Andrews on the last end. On Sunday John Kennedy defeated Russell Dietrich. The final is at 9am Sunday between John Kennedy and Alan Phillips. We are looking forward to seeing a big crowd of spectators.
The new guns: Next year we have a new level of club competition. It is a full knockout comp of four bowl pairs played under competition rules. It will be in mufti dress and played on Saturday or Sunday. It is open to all social members and those with full membership without a win to their name.
From the committee: Geoff Williams, Bruce Williams, Greg Gunn, Viv Russell, Wayne Moon, Lyall Strudwick, Scott Andrews and Rob Priest.
Apologies for the change to the dates for the Major Fours and Major Pairs. We needed to bring the pairs forward so they will be finished before the zone champion of champions in July. If anybody wants a copy of the calendar let one of the committee know. Please check the board for dates. We need nominations for Major Pairs before 7th January.
Congratulations to Col Breaden on his Life Membership. Col joins Harry Coggan, Don Craft, Alan Baker, John Baass, Greg Parslow, Don Drabsch, Peter White, Sue White, Clive Herbert, Ernie Egan and Greg Cannon.
