Bishop Ian Palmer was in Forbes to commission new priest-in-charge Reverend Crystal Spindler and formally introduce newly-ordained deacon, Honorary Reverend Natalie Quince to the congregation.
Reverend Spindler addressed a full church and welcomed special guests, her family and visitors from several other parishes who came for the occasion.
“It’s so wonderful that we can all come together,” she said.
Mrs Quince also spoke to the congregation about her faith and journey.
Reverend Crystal reflected on the many people who had served and worshipped in the church over its 140 year history and said she was looking forward to being part of the future of the parish.
The original wooden church of St John the Evangelist was build on the site, at a cost of 150 pounds.
The Nave was built around the original structure in 1876-1877 at a cost of 2050 pounds – that would equate to more than $21 million today.
The church community celebrated after the service with lunch and a birthday cake.
Reverend Crystal and her husband, Reverend Ron, are Church Army trained and have worked in Broken Hill with the Bush Church Aid Society.
The weekend also marked 10 years since Reverend Crystal’s ordination as a deacon at Broken Hill.
Reverend Ron Spindler continues his ministry with Parkes Anglican Church where he was ordained this time last year.
The Reverends have also worked in the parishes of Barellan, Weethalle, Ariah Park/Ardlethan and Parkes.
