More than a quarter of the teams bettered their best score yet, while some went below the ‘100’ mark. It was a case of the scorching scores matching the scorching temperatures.
The best members score of the round was made by Julie Hurkett with a 30.5 nett. Next two best players were Sally Perry and Louise French, both on 31 nett.
The best non-members score went to Toni Townsend on 30 nett, followed by Jarrod Demaminal (31.5) and Kevin Vale (32).
The best team scores in each Pool were: Drawshanks 101(Pool 1), Flip Floppers 98 (Pool 2), Lost in the Trees 101 (Pool 3), and Bushrangers 101 (Pool 4).
While the Ladies had the better individual scores, the men seemed to combine better to give them the brilliant low scores. Two match-ups in each group saw winners by three or less points, showing just how low things need to go.
The ball/ money voucher winners for each Pool are:
Pool 1 – Ted Morgan, Phil Maher, Bede Tooth, Jeff Haley, Barbara Drabsch, Mark Watts and Martin Cahill.
Pool 2 – Toni Townsend, Julie Hurkett, Jarrod Demaminal, Ian Bown, Garry Fordham, Kim Herbert and Debbie Tilley.
Pool 3 – John Gunn, Kevin Vale, Nick Turner, Stuart Thomas, James Fisher, Beth Dickens, Don Ridley.
Pool 4 – Louise French, Sally Perry, Liz Ridley, Mat Duff, Darren Clarke, Jenny Ridley and Danielle Scott.
You really needed a low score for individual honours. Group two needed a score below 33.5 to get a ball, while the others were not far behind. No doubt this will see the handicaps for many players drop markedly, but improvement is part of the game
I reported it wrong last week, and can advise that there is another week to go before the Christmas break. We finish the first part of the competition on December 17.
But this final week is a double points round, so get cracking to earn yourself some good Christmas cheer.
All the lead teams in the groups have at least a three point lead, but with the competition being so close the tables could easily turn.
The leaders are: Pool 1 – The Never Coulds, Pool 2 - Bush Divas, Pool 3 – Postie Top Six, and Pool 4 – TBC. In this week’s draw only one Pool has the top two teams playing each other. That means in the other pools, other teams have a chance to topple the leaders
It was great to get out on the course after the wet days. There are a few challenges, especially on the fourth hole where the water hazard is wider than usual. It seems the best way to attack it is to skip the ball over the water.
Concentration is still a key component. This is difficult when the flies and mossies are out. I suggest that despite the heat those players who are slight of frame should wear heavy shoes so that the insects do not carry you away.
Enjoy this last week for this part of the competition. Ho ho ho to you all.
