Lamb quality was fair with good numbers of well finished lambs offered along with the few plainer types.

Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs made up the majority of the offering with some of these being grain assisted. The usual buyers were present and competing.

A few pens of new season lambs sold from $137 to $185/head. Old trade weight lambs attracted steady demand with prices ranging from $126 to $168/head. Heavy and extra heavy weight lambs were well supplied.

Heavy lambs sold from $150 to $177/head. Extra heavy weights received from $160 to a top of $249/head. Carcase prices averaged from 660c to 683c/kg cwt.

Numbers were limited for the first cattle sale of the year. Quality was very mixed with some good lines of well finished grain assisted cattle on offer, along with the plainer secondary lines. Yearlings made up the majority of the offering along with a good penning of cows.

The usual buyers were present and competing in a market that was similar to the final sale of 2017.

Middle weight yearling steers to processors sold from 299c to 319c/kg. Heavy weight steers sold from 251c to 288c/kg. Those to feeders received from 260c to 317c for medium weights and 288c to 311c/kg for heavy weights. The heifer portion to processors received from 280c to 300c for middle weights and 246c to 283c/kg for heavy weights. Those to feed made from 250c to 292c/kg.
