The six-year-old gelding won the $4,000 cup by more than two lengths, from George Wright’s Cyclone Andy and Debbie Prest’s Damysus.
Trained at Condobolin by Steve Beattie, Spinning Dawn’s last three starts have been at Orange.
Starting $3.00 second favourite behind only the favoured Hurricane Andy ($2.50) from Wright’s stables at Parkes, Spinning Dawn proved he’s become adept at the 1300m distance.
Rain fell during the morning, and it wasn’t until just before the first race at 1.40pm that it stopped, but the track remained a Good (4).
The win was the fourth of Spinning Dawn’s 44-start career.
Spinning Dawn’s win was part of a double for Blewitt, while Annelise King also finished the day with two winners.
Blewitt’s other win came with the Wright-trained Run The Red ($2.30).
Beaten in the final strides after leading at Trangie Picnics, Sunburn atoned by winning the 1000 metres Maiden Plate for Parkes trainer Sharon Jeffries and owner Jeff Piercy from Condobolin.
Ridden by the Kembla Grange based Annelise King, Sunburn ($2.30) overhauled Grand Expedition (Ashley Boyd, $2.20) to score in a close finish with Portraits (Katie Spalding, $11) filling third place.
A double for Parkes trainers when the George Wright trained Run The Red won the Class B Handicap,1000 metres.
Part owned by well known publican and harness racing enthusiast Jim Clyburn, Run The Red (Ricky Blewitt,$2.30 fav) tracked the leaders then finished best to account for Dublin Dan (Shannon Fogg, $4) and All Rounder (Ashley Boyd $10).
Bathurst trainer Paul Theobald and jockey Alan Barton have shared many winners over the years and they combined again with Rise Me Up ($3.50) which set the pace before winning the Maiden Plate (1200 metres) from One Eye Watching (Ashley Boyd, $5.50) and Cranfield (Kath Bell-Pitomac, $6)
Other winners were The Revenant (Annelise King,$1.70 fav.) trained by Luke Pepper and Love And Desire (Ashley Boyd, $4) trained by Debbie Prest.
