Saturday, February 17: Lachlan Valley veteran golfers showed their support for the Condobolin club when they staged one of their best ever mid-week 18 competitions attracting 73 players.

Even with conditions which have seen no significant rains for the past two months at Condobolin the course was present as good as any would expect.
Forbes players held their own to be equal leaders in the Geoff Coles Shield where the best three scores from each club count. Forbes and Condobolin tied at the top with 114 points from Cowra 109, Parkes 105, West Wyalong 94, Grenfell 90 while players from Lake Cargelligo also played out of the Lachlan Valley boundary.
Winner of A grade was Allan Dotson (Condobolin) with 39 points while runner-up was Barry Thomas (Condobolin) with 37 on a count-back from Barry Toms (Condobolin) and Ted Morgan (Forbes).
Lachlan Valley president Allan Luff (Cowra) scored best for the day to win B grade with 41 points from Greg Phillips (Condobolin) with 38 points.
Forbes' Greg Webb took out C grade with 39 points from Tony Bratton (Forbes/Bogan Gate) on 38 points.
Ladies also played on Thursday with Anne Leal (Condobolin) the winner while the non-vets winner was Anthony Rodgers (also Condobolin). Nearest the pins, Peter Barnes (Forbes), Barry Shine (Forbes), Les Taylor (Condobolin). Thursday's 12 hole competition for Forbes/Parkes vets will be at Parkes with noms from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start.
Tuesday golf here in Forbes is also proving popular with 25 starters last week where the winner was Geoff Drane with 34 points while next best were Barry Parker and Frank Donohue with 32 points. Squash
Court conditions were expectably warm last week but that didn’t discourage competitors. Some excellent matches still thrilled the spectators. Wednesday evening February 14 Brendon Allegri was ‘all over it’ and it was all over for Jake Herron in the third set. Ben Barnard beat Tom Cormie in three also.
Then the girls showed the guys how as Sarahs, Tottenham and Miller had wins over Alister Carlisle and Pat Cormie. Bilsborough boys, Wayne and Danny battled with Wayne the winner while other brothers Harry and Cameron Toole dueled till Cam claimed the cash.
Team results were: Court One, Allegris tied Hennocks (12s) Brendon defeated Jake 3–0, L.Webb lost to E.Gaffney 1–3, S.J.Miller defeated P.Cormie 3–2, Sub defeated C.Heron 3–2. Court Two, Acrets (7) lost to Coombs (14) Regan won 3–1, H.Toole lost to C.Toole 0–3, J.Barnard lost to B.Heron 1–3. Court Three, W.Bils (16) defeated D Bils (4) Wayne defeated Danny, S.Tottenham defeated A.Carlisle 3–0, B.Barnard defeated T.Cormie 3–0.
Thursday night, Mark Webb won a big match against Tim Coombs who put in a great effort. Ken Bryant, back in the squash saddle again after umpteen years ‘out of it’, found the paddock a lot bigger than he remembered.
Mitch Doyle’s speed gave him a good win over Pete Cowhan while new recruit, Rowan Madge tried hard but lost to Nikki McCaig. Match of the week; Dan Bailey’s feet may never forgive him but he said touché to Garry after 12–15, 12–15, 16–14, 16–14, and 15–13.

Croquet
Members are advised that on Tuesday 27 February, there will be a general meeting after the games. Depending on the weather, this will take place on Halpins Flat at the club grounds or in the Uniting Church Hall. Clean sweepers this week for Golf Croquet were Libby Smart, Mal Smith and Barry White. For Aussie Croquet they were Judy Ellis, Robin Pols and Jill Rubie and for the first time Anne Stewart.
