One of Australia’s best known and most popular comedians, Jean Kittson, is the much anticipated guest speaker for the International Women’s Day breakfast in Forbes on Thursday, March 8.
Ms Kittson, a renowned, writer, television, theatre and radio commentator, is well known for openly discussing women’s issues.
When she published her 2014 book about menopause, Ms Kittson’s mission for the book was simply to break menopause out of the closet, throw it in a fabulous dress and march it through town.
She is passionate about sharing and talking about issues affecting women.
Forbes Shire Council, the Department of Primary Industries, Rural Adversity Mental Health Program and the Forbes Business Chamber are hosting International Women’s Day Forbes 2018, as part of the UN Women, National Committee Australia with hundreds of events being held nationally.
Starting at 6.30am, for those who are keen, the morning will start in Lions Park with a yoga session by Monica Lea, bring your own towel or mat. Breakfast will begin at 7am, the event will conclude at 9am.
The theme for International Women’s Day is Leave No Women Behind, examining the vital role women play in humanitarian and disaster planning and response.
Manager Community Development, Nina Hooper, urged everyone to attend the breakfast and celebrate the strong women in our community and enjoy a laugh to kickstart the day.
"Our IWD celebrations have been organised to invigorate and inspire women to be open, honest and be the best versions of themselves they can be, as well as empowering other women in our community,” Mrs Hooper said.
