Not quite, according to the latest climate outlook released by the Bureau of Meteorology.
Forecasts of maximum temperatures between 32 and 37 degrees celsius are the order of the day through the weekend, with Forbes still forecast to reach tops of 30 degrees through to this time next week.
While some parts of the state, such as Mudgee, were soaked by isolated storms over the weekend the long-range outlook for autumn doesn’t make for pretty reading for those hoping to get a good soaking of rain.
The autumn rainfall outlook, issued on Wednesday, shows large parts of central and southeastern Australia are likely to have a drier-than-average season.
Locally, there was 15.6mm recorded at Forbes airport, but the rainfall was varied around the district.
Weatherzone’s analysis showed February was drier than average, with 16.2mm of rain recorded all up and the long-term average for the month 48.4mm.
That’s better than last year’s nearly bone-dry 0.2mm and who can forget the record-wet of 162.8mm in February 2010?
Temperatures weren’t too far off averages: the average maximum was 33.7, above a long-term average of 32.8, but our hottest day was 43.1 which fell short of last year’s 46.7 degrees (thank goodness!).
Our coolest February morning was 10.3 degrees, well above the 2014 record low of 7.9. But we must have had more of those cool mornings as our average low was 16.7 degrees, below the long-term average of 17.6.
