After warmer afternoons each day this week, Saturday is forecast to reach a decidedly summery 39 degrees and Sunday a scorching 40 degrees.
The March record at the Forbes airport weather station stands at 40.3 degrees, recorded on March 13, 1998.
The good news is that the heat is expected to relent a little after the weekend, with a top of 34 degrees forecast Monday and a top of 33 for Tuesday.
The nights will also cool off again: after low temperatures of 21 degrees on Sunday and 18 on Monday, Tuesday morning is forecast to come back to 14 degrees.
What’s notably missing from weather predictions is a chance of rain to come with the change.
Forbes airport is yet to measure a drop of rain for this month, in sharp contrast to March 2017 which saw a record 191.4mm.
