Once the bracing is in place and has been inspected by the engineer, the pool will again be able to be open for use as normal.
We hope this process will be much sooner rather than later.
As this “fix” has come about quicker than expected we will be extending memberships to cover the downtime out of the pool, rather than refunds, this will give everyone the opportunity to use the pool as they expected for the same time as they signed up for.
Meanwhile, we are continuing to gain the funding and designs to move forward with the improvements or complete replacement of our swimming complex.
Thank you all for you interest and support , the heated pool is important to us all.
David Hodder, President Forbes Heated Pool Inc
The heated pool committee and members alike were left shocked by an engineer’s assessment that required the closure of the indoor facility at the end of February.
Concerns about the building led to the engagement of an independent structural engineer, whose report said, “the building as it currently stands is not safe for use by the public”.
The pool was ordered closed by the insurer, the heated pool committee and Council said in a joint statement that week.
Mr Hodder said the safety of pool patrons was paramount.
“If we did not follow the order to close down the heated pool we would be in a complete breach of public liability, the WHS Act and individuals could potentially face criminal charges if something were to happen,” he said.
The heated pool has more than 722 individual users and is used for everything from Learn to Swim to occupational therapy and rehabilitation.
