The long-time CanAssist volunteer walked through the night and day from Condobolin to raise funds for local cancer charities CanAssist and Forbes Breast Cancer Support Group.
Kerry said the night time walking was very good and the weather pleasant, allowing them to reach Waroo about 7:50am.
“We are very grateful to the locals who encouraged us on,” he said.
Walkers also made good progress through a hot day, getting in to Forbes at 5:40pm – 20 minutes ahead of their estimated time of arrival.
Kerry said he would like to thank the other walkers for their amazing efforts in overcoming blisters and aches to finish the walk with him.
So far Kerry’s 70th birthday walk has raised more than $40,000 for CanAssist and the Forbes Breast Cancer Support Group.
Kerry said he would like to thank everyone who helped make the walk possible, including the Forbes and Lachlan Shire councils.
Yvonne Shaw from the Forbes Breast Cancer Support Group congratulated and thanked Kerry and the other walkers for their efforts.
Mrs Shaw said at this stage they plan to allocate the money donated to them to refurbish some rooms within Orange’s Care Western Lodge, the annual Mother’s Day Walk and to palliative care.
Funds for CanAssist Forbes will help support individuals with cancer.
Can Assist helps meet costs travel and accommodation expenses for patients travelling to see doctors, or treatment and pharmacy expenses.
Kerry said donations haven’t officially closed if community members still wanted to donate.
