The Grand Final for the Sixes Cup was contested by the Winners of each Pool, having come through the Semi-Final stages victorious. The contenders were Boys and Girls, Bush Divas, Postie Top Six and Bushrangers. There were almost full teams for each.
There was also a contest for the Winners of the Plate in each Pool. They were Drawshanks, Hit n Miss, Lost in the Trees, and Hook Drive and Sink It. Unfortunately not all players could attend, so this group got around a bit quicker.
Following the play, participants gathered in the Golfie for the Presentation Dinner. After introductions by President Andrew McDonald, Jeff Herdigan, speaking as the major sponsor, thanked the players for their efforts through the season, commiserated with those who missed out and congratulated the winners in all categories.
Vanessa Herdigan, ably assisted by Head professional Simon Houston, presented the prizes for Weekly Winners, Overall best performers and the Plate Winners and Cup Runners-Up. A successful Weekly Winner was Lindy Cowhan, who won the Non-members category on three separate weeks.
Loud cheers emanated when the winning team of Bush Divas were announced. Their 101.5 points was significantly better than the Runners-up Boys & Girls (107), Postie Top Six (118) and Bushrangers (119). The Bush Divas made a colourful splash in the outfits as they received their prizes.
The Plate Winners were Lost in the Trees (110.5) with Hook, Drive and Sink It Runners-up.
The Best Net Individual Score in the Cup Final went to Denise Squires, while the Most Improved Player for the competition was Robert Scott who halved his handicap from 18 to nine.
Another successful summer season has finished, with over 3,500 games played in the competition. A truly wonderful effort made possible by the good condition of the course.
For those wishing to continue the fun social golf, there is a Winter 3’s comp, starts April 30. Details at the Pro Shop.-

Golfers on tour
A party of 16 golfers from Forbes has returned home after 10 days golfing and sight seeing in Queenstown New Zealand. Queenstown, described by some as the adventure capital of the world did not disappoint on the course and entertainment, all planned and organised by party leader Alf Davies.
To finish the tour the party of players were split into two groups, eight Dragon RL supporters playing the 'Rest of the World'.
The Dragons with Geoff Drane as captain coach did not disappoint to win. His team consisted of Alf Davies, Ian Bown, Barry Shine, Allan Rees, Kim Herbert, John and Geoff Betland to post a combined stableford score of 237 points
Rest of the World players with Peter Cowhan c/c were Niel Duncan, Peter Barnes, David Williams, Ralph Baker, Tony Cogswell, Bob Borger, Ray Sanderson for 221 points.
Golf resulted in two rounds at Jacks Point while others to test the Forbes players were Arrowtown (or narrow town as the locals call it), the magnificent Millbrook Resort and Queenstown Golf Club.
Despite being told by some that weather conditions would be against ideal outdoor play all rounds were played in perfect conditions for this time of the year except the round at Queenstown which was wet but all 16 did complete their rounds.
As expected their were some memorable shots played with Ray Sanderson and John Betland coming in for special. Ray with a chip in birdie from a bunker where his head was the only piece of body seen by his partners waiting on the green.
As expected John Betland played all rounds only a couple over par except a memorable 18 holes at Millbrook (home of the New Zealand Open) where par on the 6144 metre course was highlighted by an eagle two on the 496 metre par five 18th hole. His second shot in 'testing' conditions from earlier showers and wind saw his three wood carry 228 metres over a water drane on the edge the green to land two foot from the pin setting up a successful putt worthy of any golfer.
Each day there was a stableford winner in handicap. Day 1 Kim Herbert, Day 2 David Williams, Day 3 Peter Cowhan, Day 4 Geoff Drane, Day 5 Alf Davies. Five round winner John Betland.
Off the course all enjoyed the hospitality of Queenstown from water thrills and spills to seeking further adrenalin hits on the heights of the mountains. Ian Bown was voted as the leading thrill seeker showing no fear from bungy jumping to white river rafting.
In a show of appreciation for a trouble free 'golfing holiday' all asked Alf on the way to the airport home, “where to next Alf and what's the date”.
