Youth Week 2018 started off with a bang on Saturday, April 14, with a Star Wars Day allowing young fans to brush up on their light sabre skills.

Special guests Sons of Obiwan – Saber Academy – from the Central Coast demonstrated combat workshops as well as holding classes for kids aged 10 and up.
The next major event in Youth Week, is the release of several thousand Golden Perch fingerlings into Lake Forbes from 10am Tuesday, followed by a fishing workshop at Apex Park at 11am. Registrations to take part in the fishing workshop have now closed.
On Thursday, everyone is invited to come down to the Youth Centre to test their general knowledge in a trivia night. Teams are to be made up of four to eight people, with $5 per team for entry.
There will be two sessions with a 4pm start for the 11 to 15-year-olds and a 7pm start for the 16 to 25-year-olds.
Forbes Shire Council’s Youth Development Assistant, Lauren Cook said you will be assigned a team if you don’t have one.
Youth Week 2018 wraps up on Saturday April 21 with a colour run and community celebration at Halpin Flat with music and activities from midday, culminating in the Youth Week Awards at 12:30pm.
Nominations for youth awards are closed, with judging taking place on Monday April 16.
Mrs Cook said these awards recognise the hard work of young people in Forbes and are split into three categories: youth citizenship, brighter future and sports volunteer.
The colour run is for those aged 12-25, who are asked to register in advance, $10 includes a t-shirt.
