They travelled to Parkes last Sunday to take on Parkes Railway, needing to win by 9-10 points to make sure they made the final as Manildra, who was only ½ a point behind need to same result against Grenfell but they fell short as Grenfell came up trumps.
All the games were hard fought and very close and although Parkes were a little cocky our teams came away winning all three games and taking all the 10 points on offer. The results of the games were; Bruce Williams, Brian Tisdell, Viv Russell and Bert Bayley defeated Luke Ramsay’s team 22-19; Christian West, Russell Hodge, Brian Asimus and Greg Gunn outclassed Graham ‘Flippy’ Fliedner’s team 19-14; and John Kennedy, Lyall Strudwick, Greg Ward and Glen Kearney had a very close 18-17 win over Lee Hetherington’s team.
Well done fella’s, well done indeed. Good luck in Mudgee.
The No 7’s also had a win on Sunday against Parkes Railway but unfortunately they suffered a defeat last week and can only look back on what might have been and look forward to 2019. The results of the games were; Cliff Nelson, Ron Thurlow, Scott McKellar and Graham West defeated K Hynds and team 25-10; Dan Cassidy, Wayne Moon, John Williams and Alan Phillips defeated M Parkes and team 26-19; unfortunately Ray Dunstan, Peter MacKay, Bill Adams and John Stringer suffered a 10-28 against K Wales and team. Well played fella’s.
Two games in the Club Singles were played last Saturday. Tony Bratton battled over 37 ends to come out a winner, game to 29, against Ron Thurlow. Both players traded blows and it was neck and neck throughout the game. At the thirtieth end Tony picked up a three to lead 27-21` but Ron was not to be out done and on the thirty-fifth end he levelled the score 28 each and picked up a shot on the next end to hit the lead. It was not to be and Tony held three shots on the last end to win the game.
In the other game Don Craft came away with a game to 23 win against Ray Dunstan. This game was played out over thirty-four ends and at the twenty-first end Don had a 22-9 lead. Ray then began to play the bowls we know he can play and over the next 12 ends he picked up 14 shots to Don’s 9. On the last end Don held two shots to take the game.
A reminder that the first round of the Club Singles must be played by the 21st, that’s tomorrow and the next round is set down for completion the following weekend, the 29th.
Results for last Wednesday afternoon were; Peter MacKay, Denny Byrnes and Tony Bratton had a 12 all draw with Eddie Gould, Jeff Brown and Cliff Nelson; Brothers Kerry and Ray Dunstan teamed up for a 16-13 win over Ray Sanderson and Sid Morris; Laurie Crouch and Jim Maloy won 213-16 over Bill O’Connell and Garry Riley.
There were no notes or cards left out for last Thursday afternoon so unfortunately I can’t give you the results.
There was only a small field again last Sunday but with the completion of the pennant competition there should be a good roll-up on Sunday. The winners last week were Loris Stewart and Laurie Crouch who had an 18-13 win against John Cutler and John ‘Gunna’ Williams. The losing rink went to Col Breaden and Tony Bratton who lost 11-21 against Peter Tisdell and Lindy Cannon. In the last game Peter Walker and John Bentick had a runaway 23-6 win over Clive Herbert and Ron Howarth.
Barry Anderson was flown to Forbes Hospital on Tuesday after having part of a leg removed but he is in good spirits and we look forward to see him at the club shortly. Don ‘Duck’ Drabsch put a large gash in a leg which has become badly infected and he is now giving cheek to the staff at Orange Base. Hope to see you back fit and well shortly Duck. They say you should get a ‘Get Well’ card from Spro shortly for the forfeit.
A bit of advice from the Duck, when you’re down you must be up, no good dropping short and when you have the shot, take some grass. Good luck.
