“We have 108 registrations and with five days remaining for nominations this almost guarantees that this year will be our best for some time,” tournament director Lynnie Roberts said.
“While we are delighted to have seen more nominations from out of town, and this includes our best noms from Sydney clubs, it is a bit disappointing that we haven't seen more local and neighbouring club members nominate.
“But there is still time and we are hoping for more noms from some of our (Forbes) near 100 veteran golfers on our books. And it should be remembered that the week of golf isn't only for men, ladies are more then welcome to play.” Lynnie said.
Nominations include golfers from 39 clubs across the state with four clubs from Victoria also amongst early nominations. Golfers can play the whole week or one day only according to Lynnie.
“We would like to see our locals play the whole week but if they like they can play the one day only if they so choose, it is up to the individual. Each week Forbes vets play in the Tuesday and Thursday comps so they can do that next week if they like. At the end of the week it is better for us if our vets play the one day then not at all. You don't have to be a top A grader to play, vets golf for everyone, participation is the name of the game in vets golf,” Lynnie said.
Forbes with a reputation of having a flat layout and easy walking is one of the main reasons why so many visitors continue to return each year to play.
“The course is as good as any around at the moment with our fairways and greens offering a good test for golfers of all standards. With the dry conditions at present I'm sure our visitors will be pleasantly surprised at what we have to offer next week,” he said.
The program for the week is, Monday four-ball medley stableford while Tuesday, Thursday and Friday is individual stableford. Wednesday is scheduled to be a free day for participation in Anzac Day celebrations.
Friday is the major day of competition with play for the NSWVGA Shield. After play on Friday lunch and presentations for the week's play will be held.
Catering will be offered during the week with local members asked to supply a plate for morning tea Tuesday and Thursday.
