Veteran’s Golf
Veterans golf this week is all about the Forbes Vets Week of Golf which had its first Round yesterday to finish on Friday with presentations after play at the Forbes Golfie Hotel. Today's play and that of Thursday and Friday will be individual Stableford after yesterday's four-ball medley which attracted well over 110 players before post entries were received. Wednesday will be a free day so all can participate in Anzac Day celebrations.
Organisers are more then happy with nominations this year and feel by Friday evening this year will be one of the best week's of golf for many, many years. A host of new nominations came from clubs in the Sydney region while representatives from NSW Vets will also be in attendance this week.
Any veteran golfer, lady or man, can still be part of the tournament with post entries being accepted. For more contact the Pro Shop on 6851 1554 or Beryl and Lynnie Roberts on 6852 3473.
Veterans golf is certainly on the rise if response to last week's Lachlan Valley 18 holes at West Wyalong is any indication attracting 88 players.
There was a memorable round played at WW. One of golf's gentlemen, Geoff Coles played to his age 'off the stick' in posting 43 points. Congratulations to one of the finest from Forbes.
Outside golf a major presentation was made with long serving Lachlan Valley president and committee member Alan Luff from Cowra given Life Membership, warmly greeted by all from across the valley.
Some of the best scores for decades were recorded at Wyalong due to tee markers being moved forward. No matter where you tee off from, at the end of the day all play the same course.
A grade (handicap 0-12) was won on a count-back by Jeff Macpherson from Condobolin with 43 points, a score shared by three others. Runner-up Wayne Broad (West Wyalong) from Barrie Toms (Condobolin) and Allan Jones (Grenfell).
B grade (13-19) went to Forbes' Garry Pymont with the best score for the day, 48 points from Warwick Stubbing (Condobolin) on 46 points.
C grade (20 plus) was won by Colin Bell (West Wyalong) with 45 points on a count-back from fellow club member and former Forbes golfer and abbies worker, Bill Kelleher.
Nearest the pins, A grade Allan Jones (Grenfell), B grade Graham Tulloch (West Wyalong), C grade Steve Grace (Grenfell). In the Coles/Miller Shield, West Wyalong 133, Forbes 132, Grenfell 129, Cowra 128, Parkes 127, Condobolin 121.
Ball sweep to 39 points. Winners from Forbes, A grade, 41 points Ken Sanderson, 40 Barry Parker, 39 Peter Barnes. B grade, 43 Geoff Coles, 39 Garry Collits. C grade, 41 Tony Bratton, 40 Greg Webb, 39 David Williams.
Each week Tuesday golf is attracting 20 plus players where the winner last week was Geoff Coles with 32 points for the 12 holes from Lynnie Roberts on 30. The previous week Barry Parker greeted the judge first with 31 points from Vince Aitken on 30.
Tuesday golfers are invited to play in the Vets Week of Golf now on with, as previously stated, post entries being accepted for today, Thursday and Friday.
If not, Tuesday golf again next week with ball toss at 9am for playing partners.

Squash
Wednesday night April 18, began semis round. Finals for both nights were to be held on Friday night. Hennocks were against Coombs followed by Allegris versus W Bills. Hennocks were favourites against Coombs and won three matches to one though the final score was not really dramatic 15 to 13. Captain Jake beat Graham over a short match where scores were; 15–5, 15–12, 15–12. The two middle matches; Ethan Gaffney versus Neil Toole and Pat Cormie versus Cam Toole were much longer but the last between George Falvey and Daffyd Thomas was short with scores 5–15, 6–15, 9–15. Allegris were fired up and disposed of W Bils more convincingly. Captain Brendon only allowed Wayne one set but Louise Webb took two sets from young Will Wallace though she lost in the fifith. George Falvey returned to court subbing for Allegris and defeated Ben Barnard 3–1. Thursday evening’s semis between Acrets and Pipers was a real yoyo affair where all matches went three sets only but wins and losses went from side to side. Regan Acret found Darryn Piper was on fire. Kyle Sharpe beat Nathan Roach. Scottt Webb lost to Mitch Doyle as did Tim Coombs against John Betland. Sub Lara Stibbard lost to Deb Bryant but she was consistent over Rowan Madge. So comp number ones, Acrets lost to Pipers who were in fourth spot, 10 points to 26. Other finalists, Alex Doyle’s team had victory over Sam Hornerys by two points. Most matches were long here but Alex had success against Sam, Lockie Miller lost to Brendon Allegri, as did Graham Coombs to Pete Cowhan. Pete Thompson defeated Dave Hodges, Brodie Acret beat Blair Thomas but then Stuart Gordon lost to sub Lara Stibbard. So Doyles were set to face Pipers the following Friday night. The Wednesday night finalists were Hennocks and Allegris where, Brendon lead his team well defeating Jake 15–9, 15–17, 16–14 and 15–5, but Louise Webb couldn’t beat Ethan Gaffney and nor could Sarah Jane Miller over come Pat Cormie. Sub, Stuart Gordon won for Allegris in the fourth match though, beating George Falvey 15–6, 18–16, 15–9. With both teams 14 match points all and two matches a piece, a count back was required leaving Allegris with a loss of 169 total points to Hennocks 181. So Hennocks were the 2018 Summer Wednesday comp finals winners by 12 points. The finals for Thursday night teams were set to be tough with two top teams to face each other. Captains, Alex lost to Darryn 0–3 but sub Jono Cannon won a battle against Nathan Roach. Graham Coombs took no sets from Mitch Doyle and Pete Thompson suffered a loss to John Betland 15–7, 18–20, 16–18, 11–16. Brodie Acret had little trouble with Debbie Bryant but Stuart Gordon won 3–2 against Rowan Madge. When the dust settled Doyles had lost to Pipers 18 points to 24, making Pipers Thursday night comp Champs. Be sure and get your noms in for our winter comp which kicks off next week.

Croquet results
Tuesday was a beautiful day with an influx of more new players. Welcome to Ruth Cheney, Dot Hailstone, Nev and Marie Spry. The courts are the best we have seen since last year. Thank you to our grounds people and our contract lawn mowing service for a huge effort.
Saturday saw a hot morning with an exceptional turn out of players. Damp dewy lawns turning to hot dry ones make for inconsistent and unpredictable rolling of the balls and therefore a lot of challenge to get the ball where we need it to be. A lot of fun and a lot more laughs.
The first half of May is proving to be very busy for the club with our birthday lunch on Tuesday, May 1 at 12 midday at the Bakehouse in Templar Street.
Tuesday, May 8 will see us celebrate World Croquet day with a morning tea, Golf Croquet and Gateball as well as other novelty games. Come along and join in the fun. Members please bring a plate to share.
Saturday, May 12 will see members join the Seniors College members in the Relay for Life. Please see Bill Scott for details.
An extra special shout goes to Elvy Quirk, a huge thank you for taking the reins to get the results out whilst Harley and I were on holiday.
