The contribution of Forbes’ young people has been celebrated at the annual Youth Week Awards, presented on Saturday at Halpin’s Flat.

Kaidyn Haynes and Elise Dukes were presented with Youth Citizenship Awards as local Youth Week events wrapped up with a community celebration.
Kaidyn is a leader in Forbes High School’s White Ribbon boys group – raising awareness of family and domestic violence - and is working towards being a White Ribbon ambassador.
He is also a proud indigenous youth who participates in the Girri Girri Sports Academy and Indigenous Games program.
Kaidyn’s leadership, commitment and passion were applauded in each of his nominations, as well as his courage in standing up for others and taking a stand against bullying.
Elise Dukes has been a major part of the Youth Action Team, helping organise and run a lot of events and activities for local young people including during Youth Week.
She was described as “an excellent ambassador for Forbes” at the NSW Youth Week forum in Sydney the past two years, is involved with Forbes High School’s Youth Wellness Committee and Forbes Hockey Inc.
Such impressive nominations were received that judges decided to also award a highly commended this year.
Recipient Paige Stonham was recognised for her volunteer work with Meals and Wheels and the Forbes High Breakfast Club, as well as her commitment to the Youth Wellness Committee.
Honours in the Brighter Future Award were shared this year, between William Stamp and Baedon Isbester.
The Brighter Future Award is for apprentices, trainees or students who demonstrate strong commitment, consistent effort, passion and determination for their field.
William’s nomination applauded his leadership, enthusiasm and encouragement of others.
He performed in the 2017 School Spectacular and is currently doing weekly work placement with two Forbes businesses.
Baedon was 2017 Dux of Forbes High School and is now studying Civil Engineering and Surveying at the University of Newcastle.
A highly commended was awarded to Laura Mattiske for her passion for STEM subjects and strong leadership as the captain of Red Bend Catholic College.
Dedicated netball umpire Jack Piercy received the 2018 Sports Volunteer Award, which recognises young people who volunteer or contribute to local sport and recreation.
Jack has also helped coach the Forbes North Public School netball team and was praised for never leaving at night without making sure all jobs at the courts are done.
Brianna Duncan was presented with a highly commended in this category, in recognition of her ongoing commitment and contribution to Forbes Netball. She is also in the umpire development program.
