The full TAB meeting kicks off at 12.57pm Sunday for eight races with more than $62,000 in prize money.
Gates open midday, all facilities will be on course plus a free jumping castle for the kids until 4pm.
Racing starts with the S and S Welsh Transport 2yo pace – good to see the youngsters go around after several years’ absence.
The favourite will be Frankie’s Tooth owned and trained by popular Bathurst dentist Graham Ball after it scored at its last race at Dubbo on Wednesday night. It led all the way so after drawing barrier one at Forbes will be looking for a similar result.
Race 2 is the Forbes Livestock and Co and Forebs Shire Council CO pace and local interest centres on Parzival for Matthew Robb. It steps up a bit in class but from its draw should get a soft run with a rough-place chance. The race is likely to be dominated by the horses drawn one to four with Monkeybusiness owned by Rod and Debbie Wenning a strong chance after a slashing second at Bathurst last Friday.
Race 3 is the Kevin and K Seymour celebrating 50 years in harness racing 3yo pace. These have been long-time supporters of harness racing, mainly in Queensland, but they have sponsored races all through the mainland this season.
Roseculledglasses had his first start for Adam Bellach at Forbes on Anzac Day and ran a very creditable third. From a favourable barrier driver Angela Hedges will undoubtedly try and find the front. The main danger will be Our Chateau Lafite for Amanda Turnbull who had no luck at Dubbo on Wednesday night.
Race 4 is the tab.com.au pace for C1/C2 – this race creates a lot of local interest with Arcachon trained at Eugowra by Grant Jones in reasonable form lately but sure to improve with Amanda Turbull taking the reins.
Other interests include Grinorama for Matt Robb, who from barrier 7 will enjoy a soft run.
Digger Shed for Terry Hush will be backing up after running at Young on Friday night with a lot of pace up front, Digger Shed could be a chance to run over the top of them. An interesting runner is Give Me Fifty, formerly in the Gaffney Sullivan stables, but is now to be driven by Jason Turnbull.
The above-mentioned stable is experiencing a very quiet time at present. They have a lot of young horses coming through and hope to be a force in the area once again.
Race 5 is the Hygain Dubbo Garrards Golden Gig heat – this is a race conducted in the western districts for trainers and drivers classed as hobbyists.
The $12,000 final will be conducted at the big Dubbo Carnival of Cups meeting on Friday week.
It’s an extremely even field with the winner hard to spot but last start Forbes winner Dexters Sun, Catherine De Pijper, has as good a chance as any.
The day’s final three races each offer in excess of $10,000 in prize money.
The first of these is the final of the Forbes Services Memorial Club C0/C1 with the heats conducted on Anzac Day.
Matthew and Terry Robb have two representatives in in Crazy In Love and Harley James, who will both benefit by the experience.
The favourite will probably be number 6, Freddy Funk for Nathan Turnbull, who scored a slashing 44m win in the heat running a class track record of 1.58.7. He started from a similar barrier in the heat and will no doubt try to adopt similar tactics.
One can see Amanda Turnbull with her charge Ellmers Image, who also won a heat but not as impressively, going forward early in the race. Other big chances on their heat runs would be Walk On Kimmy, Jason Turnbull, and Loxley, Mark Hewitt.
The $10,000 Club Menangle Where Horses Fly heat for CO/C1 class pacers and local interest centres on I’m All Courage trained in Bathurst by Peter Trevor Jones for locals Rod and Debbie Wenning whose recent form has been very encouraging with very good runs at Goulburn and Bathurst. From barrier three, we’ll look for an all-the-way win.
The final race is at 4.34pm, another Menangle heat this time for C3/C4 which brings together an even field sure to be keenly contested.
Kyalla Stuart for owners David and Audrey Mason and trainer / driver Monique Parsons has been one of the most consistent pacers in the local district for the last two seasons.
His tough efforts have been rewarded for several wins and many minor placings. He also backs up from racing at Young on Friday but given his racing style, will undoubtedly press forward to make sure it’s a fast-run race.
The two back markers Ring The Till, who resumed with a slashing second at Bathurst last week, and Our Wall Street Wolf, who was successful on Anzac Day taking out the Forbes RSL Sub Branch Diggers Cup, will undoubtedly attract plenty of interest.
