'Didget' was announced during presentations on Sunday evening at the 'Golfie' Hotel as one of two senior players to contest the NSW Seniors Open later this year at Thuroonga Golf Club Albury.
Both divisions of the NSW Open qualifier were played at the Forbes Golf Club on Sunday attracting over 120 players from NSW and along with interstate representatives seeking places in the Open fields.
Konrad, a plus three handicap golfer playing out of the Victoria Golf Club will contest the NSW Open in November after posting a four under par 68 round adding he had no hesitation in saying the trip he made from Victoria was well worth with the effort. “I would like to think I might be back next year if possible,” he said.
“I really like this course. I had a practice round on Saturday and the round today were both really enjoyable. The course is really in good shape. The greens are good and perhaps not quite as fast as I'm used to at home but they are true in line and have real good pace. The course is really in good shape all round, the greens staff have done a really good job here,” he said on Sunday evening.
Konrad played the front nine three under par 33 with birdies at the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th only to see a dive out of bounds at the 7th before a bogey six.
His back nine saw the sole birdie at the 12. His birdie attempt at the easy 15th five saw his second in the 'dry' water hazard before a difficult second shot before a par five.
Before a ball was played on Sunday, 'Didget' told all if he broke 100 he would be happy. He was recording a creditable 79 off the stick.
Sunday night while celebrating there was not a wider smile while admitting he felt he had no chance of advancing to the Seniors Open. “Can't wait, what an experience,” he said.
“I've heard there is more then the Open round, they give lessons etc along with meet and greet so this is something I won't miss,” he said.
