Emergency services were called to a Cedar Crescent home about 8pm Saturday, but residents had managed to extinguish the fire, which started in the kitchen.
Forbes Fire Brigade captain Brian Clarke said a resident had placed a saucepan in the sink and it had burst into flames – hot enough to scorch paint on the walls and ceiling, and damage light fittings.
He said the occupant had sustained quite significant burns to her hands. She was treated by ambulance officers on scene and taken to hospital.
Mr Clarke urged people never to put water on an oil fire or hot oil.
“You should have a fire extinguisher or fire blanket in the kitchen, if you don’t you can wet a tea towel or towel and lay it over the top of the saucepan,” he said.
Earlier that evening, fire fighters had also been called to a fire in one of the empty buildings at the Lachlan Vintage Village.
Mr Clarke said they were told a group of people had been seen running from the scene.
It appeared they may have had a small fire and some of the timber in the building had caught alight.
Fire fighters were able to extinguish it quickly.
