More than 100 fun and colourful cars on a charity rally around regional NSW stopped in Forbes for Tuesday night.
The Variety Bash donated $5,000 to Forbes Public, part of $50,000 worth of grants the event is giving to regional schools.
“We will use the Variety grant to put towards our new inclusive playground that can be enjoyed by all of our 300 students,” Forbes Public School Principal Dafydd Thomas said.
“We want all our students, no matter their ability, to be able to play alongside each other and tap into their creative skills.”
Variety NSW Regional Director Jason Bourke said this year is the biggest Bash ever, with 105 teams and 330 entrants taking part.
This year’s event started on Sunday May 20 at Newcastle, and is heading to Nundle, Glen Innes, Tulloona, Narrabri and Eumungerie.
On day four of the week-long adventure the Variety Bash crews were treated to breakfast by Forbes Public school at Showground, where they were able to meet the kids and see the difference their fundraising will make.
Some of the children took the chance to check out the creative cars, including one that offered a virtual reality Tonka Truck experience, and meet the dressed-up drivers.
The Variety Bash teams left Forbes Showground on Wednesday morning, heading out the Bedgerabong Road en route to Griffith, Caragabal, Orange and Mudgee before finishing at Newcastle on Saturday for a family fun day.
“All our Bashers have a fantastic time on the Bash and the highlights from the trip are always seeing the kids’ faces who we have helped along the way,” Mr Bourke said.
“All of the funds raised will provide grants to help give Aussie kids a fair go.
“This might be a new wheelchair for a child with a disability, a scholarship to help a child facing financial hardship achieve their sporting dream, or even nappies for a family doing it tough.”
If you are interested in joining the 2019 Variety Bash, all you need is a car that is more than 30 years old, an interest in seeing regional Australia and a passion for helping disadvantaged kids.
