Did you know that much of the emergency response work is done by volunteers?
Wednesday, May 23, was Wear Orange Wednesday, a day we’re all asked to don some orange and say thank you to the 40,000 volunteers who give 400,000 hours of service across the State each year.
NRMA Forbes office hosted an orange-themed morning tea to mark the occasion, with SES volunteers welcome and orange in abundance.
Josh Gavin has been volunteering with SES for nearly 10 years, Joel Cuskelly about eight years and Greg Schaefer about two years.
They said the Forbes unit always welcomes new volunteers, with a wide variety of roles people can take up.
The local volunteers are most in demand during storms and floods – to help with fallen trees or roof damage, or in rescue particularly when someone drives into floodwaters.
