Veterans golf
Despite unfavourable weather conditions 23 veteran golfers from Forbes and Parkes played their weekly 12 hole competition in Parkes.
Scoring wasn't all that bad in the cool conditions with Forbes' Jeff Haley best with 25 points from Parkes' Robert Lea on 24 points. John Smith had a successful day taking the Encouragement Award on the course then winning the meat tray in the in-house raffle.
Again no B grade player made it nearest the pins. In A grade Jeff Haley (F) took the 4th and Dub Rodgers (P) the 11th hole.
Ball sweep to 20 points. 23 points Geoff Drane (F), Garry Pymont (F), Graeme Cook (P), 22 Gordon Christie (P), 21 Alf Davies (F), Milton Cartwright (F), John O'Shannessy (P), 20 Michael Lynch (P), Dub Rodgers (P). Forbes took the Mick Miller Shield 132 points to 130 from the host club.
Thursday 12 holes will be here in Forbes with nominations from 12.30pm for a 1pm shot gun start. The local course is playing the best it has for some time so an increase in playing numbers in expected.
Last Tuesday 18 social golfers took advantage of the Tuesday 12 hole competition where co-organiser Geoff Drane used his mid-week handicap to advantage to win with 32 points from 'leftie' Barry Parker on 30 points.
It's on again today, ball toss at 9.30am for playing partners and everyone in welcome to have a hit. For more on Tuesday golf contact Geoff Coles or Geoff Drane.
