Nev Molloy was honoured with the Richard ‘Ritchie’ Holmes Lifetime Achievement Living Legend Award, Charmaine Pout and Kate Danials received awards for services to country music.
The awards are run by Mal Norton Entertainment each June long weekend, as part of the Country Music Spectacular.
Here’s a little on each of our local winners ...
Guitarist Nev Molloy was inducted into the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame Hands of Fame Park this year.
Nev had his first band in Forbes at about 16 years of age and made his first trip to Tamworth in the 1980s, he’s since been involved with most Australian country music greats.
He’s performed with Slim Newton and Barry Thornton, toured Queensland with Buddy Thompson and Lyne Bennett and toured with the Brian Letton show for about 23 years on and off.
He also had his own recording studio in Broken Hill, recording many award winning albums for other artists, before moving back to Forbes.
Charmaine Pout, who won the Split Image Audio Award, made her first appearance on TV at Channel 7 in Sydney at 11 years of age and has been singing ever since.
She appeared on many special concerts and stage shows in around Sydney, Newcastle and Goulburn as part of the Follies Revue and The National Variety Company.
In 1966 Charmaine moved to Forbes where she has continued her country music career, releasing seven albums and supporting Australian country music at festivals all over the nation.
She’s also a regular presenter on our community radio station, Valley FM.
Bogan Gate’s Kate (Speedy) Daniel, who won the Rod Pilon Transport Award, has been singing since the mid-1980s, in pubs and clubs, at charity shows and festivals.
Her 2016 single “Harry Bowden Derelict” won her the Barry Thornton Encouragement award at the 2017 Stan Coster Bush Ballad awards.
In 2017 she was asked to join Bob Gregory and Nev Molloy to record an album, her song “Trading my crown for a ring” earned her the encouragement award at the Pittsworth Gidgee Coal Bush Ballad awards.
She’s now working on a solo album.
