Councils' Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer, Melanie Suitor, says our actors have recently filmed the establishing scenes of the mock crash, which are shown before the demonstration commences.
“The scenes introduce the characters to the audience and set up the mock crash scenario by starting to tell the road safety narrative about what led to the crash,” she explained.
“The scene is set at an 18th birthday party 10kms from town, and features our youth actors discussing how they are going to get home,” Ms Suitor said.

Work now turns to filming the victim impact statements, which are shown at the conclusion of the demonstration, conducting the pre-lessons at the local high schools and holding the rehearsals ahead of the Mock Crash Demonstration on Friday August 17.
Celebrating its 10th year in 2018, the Mock Crash Demonstration has seen over 5,000 local students learn about the responsibilities and risks associated with getting behind the wheel.
“Each year around 500 Year 10 students from across the three Council areas take part in the program,” Ms Suitor said.
“Since the program commenced, we have recorded a 27% reduction in local crashes involving young drivers.
“This year the event is being held at Parkes High School's Multi-purpose Centre, and like previous years, the final dressed rehearsal will be open to the public.”
The aim of the project is to show young drivers what can and does happen far too often on the road and encourage them to change their attitudes and behaviours as not just drivers but as passengers.
