The students who make up the cattle team organised a lunchtime barbecue at the Red Bend farm to the say thank you to their families and community groups who have offered financial support.
In 2006, the cattle team began campaigning for the help of local businesses and groups to help subsidise the cost of going to shows, accommodation and food, the cattle team uniforms and some equipment items.
The cattle team are now preparing for the local show circuit in Term 3 and, at the same time, are breaking in and feeding steers for the Beef Bonanza in October.
This follows on from the cattle team’s success at the Sydney Royal earlier this year with Cyrus taking home Champion Lightweight Steer of the Show and George being named a reserve champion heavy steer.
The cattle team also took home two golds, a silver and three bronze awards in the carcase classes.
