The winners were Rod Maxwell and Glenn Clarke with Laylah Logan named the Under 18’s winner.
Forbes/Parkes CDAT member, Melanie Suitor, said the win the swag competition dovetailed the state-wide Plan B campaign which encourages punters to think about alternatives to driving home after a night out.
The competition received almost 100 adult entries and 70 Under 18’s entries.
“We asked the adults to tell us what their Plan B was. As the TV advertisement says, some Plan B’s are better than others - so not surprisingly the Plan B’s we received ranged from good ones like taxi, get a lift or have a designated driver to not so good ones like get pushed home in a wheelbarrow,” Ms Suitor said.
“Our information stall was very popular with the children and adults alike, especially the footy toss beer goggles challenge,” she said.
Plan B is about making positive choices to get home safely after a night out, highlighting that driving is not an option. It is aimed at young male drivers 17-25 years old, who are over-represented in all alcohol related crashes.
“Thanks to the Parkes Rugby League Football Club for allowing us to set up our information stall and promote this important message,” Ms Suitor said.
Drink driving is one of the biggest causes of death and injury on NSW roads. Country people are at particular risk given the lack of public transport or other options for getting home.
CDATs are a group of people working together to take action on drug/alcohol related concerns in their community. Across NSW there are 70 CDATs. CDATs are funded by NSW Health and administered by the Australian Drug Foundation.
The Forbes/Parkes CDAT is comprised of members from Forbes Shire Council, Parkes Shire Council, NSW Police, NSW Health, Red Bend Catholic College, Parkes High School, Roads and Maritime Services and Parkes PCYC.
