Veterans golf
Veteran golf has welcomed several new players in recent weeks and two who have a bit of sporting knowledge are quickly making their mark greeting the starter as winners. Under the coaching of astute talent Geoff Drane, also co-organiser of the 12 hole Tuesday competition, Brian Clarke and Viv Russell have boosted their bank accounts as winners.
Two weeks ago Mr Clarke won Tuesday with 32 points from Mr Drane's fellow Tuesday organiser Geoff Coles, next best on 29 points. Last Tuesday it was Mr Russell's turn, also with 32 points from Milton Cartwright on 31 points.
Next step, a win in the Forbes/Parkes weekly competition. Until then, the 12 hole competition is in again today with ball toss from 9.30am for playing partners.
The winner last Thursday of the Forbes/Parkes 12 hole competition was Peter Bristol from Parkes with a creditable 27 points considering the bleak weather conditions, one reason for a rather small field of 29 players. Eight of these travelled from Parkes to play the Forbes layout.
Runner-up was our own Geoff Drane with 25 points on a count-back from Tony Cogswell (also Forbes). Lynnie Roberts took home the Encouragement Award.
Due to a 'new' layout nearest the pin winners, first hole A grade Peter Bristol (P) while Garry Pymont (F) won B grade here plus the 18th. Dub Rodgers (P) won A grade 18th.
Mick Miller Shield, best six scores from each club, Forbes 140, Parkes 126. Ball sweep to 21 points on a c/back. 25 points Tony Cogswell (P), 23 Alf Davies (F), Barry Shine (F), John Pearce (P), 22 Tom Edols (F), 21 on c/b David Williams (F).
Next Thursday's play will be over 12 holes in Parkes, noms from 12.30pm for a 1pm shot gun start. For all information on Forbes golf contact the Pro Shop on 6851 1554.
