Author Kim Hodges will give an insightful and emotional talk into her experiences with depression, including hospitalisations, visits to clinics, medication changes, effects on family and coping strategies when she speaks at Forbes Library on Monday, July 30 at 2pm.
Girl Over the Edge is Kim’s second memoir about her lived experience of mental illness.
Kim said the memoir aims to take the reader into episodes of depression that she has personally experienced.
In the memoir, Kim draws upon five years of experience to give an insight to what happens in public and private hospitals. Kim’s presentation will give you insight and also challenge beliefs, attitudes and reduce the stigma around mental illness.
“Mental illness is still swept under the carpet. I want to start discussions in small communities (about the) shame and stigma of mental illness,” Kim said.
Kim’s account of what depression feels like to her will help to add to our understanding of it.
