The theme for the day was “A Day at the Races” which members dressed appropriately for.
President, Diane Agustin, welcomed members, their guests and visitors from Orange, Cowra, Forbes, Parkes and the local area, and invited local Wiradjuri lady, Casey Jones, to extend the 'welcome to country'.
Di gave a brief outline of the 10 years of VIEW in Eugowra, speaking of what the club has accomplished over that time, the friendships formed and the three 'Learning for Life' students which the Eugowra Club sponsor.
Following a very short meeting, members and guests then enjoyed the Ploughman's Lunch which was in keeping with the 'Race Day' theme.
President Di then introduced our special guest speakers who were Abbie Howell who has a harness racing background and Alison Smith who comes from a race horse upbringing. Mia Scolari was the interviewer.
Abbie takes great delight seeing her family support her with her harness racing and their favourite family horse Kennedy Creek.
Alison started in the racing game in her teens when she became an amateur and then apprentice jockey before turning professional and then obtaining her trainer's licence in 2001.
She has total support of her family which would not be possible for her to manage if she didn't. Her favourite family horses are 'Somewhat Black' and 'What a Ripper'
Both Abbie and Alison are passionate about their horses and have it in their blood.
Fashions on the Field followed with Alpana Mahagaon of Forbes, judged by Mia Scolari, as being the winner from a group of beautifully attired ladies.
Zone Councillor, Therese Welsh, then had the honour of pinning the 10 year badges on the foundation members, Elaine Cheney, Kay Jones, Diane Agustin, Wendy Drady, Andy Langfield, Jeanette Norris, Judy Smith and of course Therese Welsh. Three members Helen Perry, Esther Hyde and Bozena were unable to be present.
Maria Dawson, who started the Evening VIEW Club in Eugowra 10 years ago, had the honour of cutting the birthday cake, which was made and decorated by Annette Connell.
Zone Councillor, Therese Welsh, welcomed everyone, thanked the birthday committee for the job they had done and also the lovely guest speakers for sharing part of their very special story.
Therese said that it was an opportunity to look back at 10 years of achievements.
Of celebrating women having a voice, developing their interests and improving themselves through education and providing funds, through many and varied fund-raising activities, to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young Australians.
Registrations open September 3 for National Convention to be held at Twin Waters Sunshine Coast September 13-15 2019.
Zone Conference will be held at Eat Your Greens on Sunday 28th October 2018 starting at 11-00am.
