It’s always good to see the greens full and with a full house of 42 teams, many of them visitors from outside our area all in their club colours, enjoying their self in full sunshine.
Congratulations to Lisa Burton and the mixed committee on their organisation and also to Scooter for the preparation of the greens.
With the mixed carnival under way there were no other bowls being played so all I have to report on are the Wednesday and Thursday afternoon social bowls.
Wednesday
Rob Priest said it was just another great day on the green and what a good way to spend an afternoon.
There was Barry Shine and Ray Drabsch battling it out with Peter MacKay and Rob Priest and all the while stirring each other.
At one point Barry’s wife, Sue, was being called into play to help bowl but to no avail.
Rob and Peter finished a great game two shots ahead after being level pegging on five occasions.
Laurie Crouch introduced Dave Clifford, a visitor from King Island. Dave came out in front playing with Viv Russell while Laurie played with Daniel Tisdell.
We were one player short and thanks to Lyn Simmons for making up a team with Jon Kennedy however the opponents, Don Hodson and Christian West were too strong on the day.
Cliffy Nelson and Tony Bratton teamed up for a win against Scott McKellar and Alf Davies.
It was a close game in the first half but Cliff and Tony took control in the second half.
Peter Greenhalgh and BARRY Wright were on fire with a big win from Bill O’Connell and Tony O’Connell. Barry white and Brian Tisdell had a convincing win against Rex Toole and Ray Dunstan.
Rex and Ray needed a bit more luck on their side. In the last game Kerry Smith, Kingsley Green and Geoff Williams played to win and did so against John Baass, Terry Shannon and Don Craft.
Thursday afternoon
The winners last Thursday afternoon were John Ashcroft and Peter MacKay who had a comfortable 32-12 win against Harvey Elliott and Tony Bratton.
Runners up were Peter Walker and Christian West with another high scoring win, 39-12, over Merv Langfield and Peter Hocking.
In the other games: John Cutler and Grant Lambert came from behind to defeat John Baass and Bill Adams 23-18 and the last game was another high scoring game with Cliff Nelson and Darryl Griffiths having a 38-14 win against Scott McKellar and Alan Phillips.
Tomorrow, Saturday is the first of the Moxey Farms Mini Pairs Carnival with $300 up for grabs. One would hope to see all local bowlers on the green supporting the event.
This is a mixed mufti event, with two games of 12 ends, nominate yourself as a skip or lead by 12 noon for a 1pm start. The cost is only $15 so there should be no shortage of players.
The Ben Hall Carnival is full, with reserves, so we will have another event with three full greens on the last weekend of August.
The Major and Minor triples nominations are now up on the board and close on August 4.
That’s all folks.
