Show secretary Anne Earney, said there will be plenty of entertainment and competitions to keep the crowds busy. “The show is always a great day out for family and friends to catch up and enjoy themselves. There will be something for everyone, young and old, at the show from dawn till dark,” she said.
For those young at heart, sideshow alley will be the centre of attention with plenty of rides for thrill seekers, and skill testing games where you can try your luck. And added bonus this year is the lucky gate prize, where one show visitor will win a brand new ‘Kubota’ pedal tractor – perfect for the kid on the land.
Dane the Great will also be back with his mystifying magic show. Dane will be performing three times throughout the day and was a huge hit at last year’s show, but in true magician tradition has refused to give away any trademark secrets ahead of this year’s performance.
The show wouldn’t be the same without a little competition, some friendly and some fierce. The traditional competitions for sheep, cattle and poultry will all be held, while pigs showing will also take place this year (although how they parade will certainly result in some laughs from the crowd).
Dogs will also be part of the action with the Championship Dog Show hosting over 400 dogs across 96 breeds. The dog high jump will ensure bragging rights are high on the agenda when it kicks off at 1pm. After a draw in the last competition, the heights have literally been raised with the aim of crowning an outright champion.
The always popular fire bucket competition will see many creative and different buckets displayed in the hope of winning the Oliver Carlisle Memorial Trophy. Three categories including Under 15 years, Best Cooker, and Any Other Bucket, will receive awards, while the crowd will vote for their favourite with the winner taking home the coveted trophy.
For those content to wander and enjoy all the displays there will be an amazing exhibition of vintage machinery by the Forbes and District Historic Tractor Club. There will be plenty of vintage tractors to cast you eye over, along with static engines used for farming tasks such as grinding corn and pumping water. Ducky Clemens will also have his historical shearing display, showing the crowds the background of the time honoured task.
Gates open at 6.30am, with this year’s showgirl winners announced and the show officially opened at 2.30pm, by honoured guest Tim Green who is the Royal Easter Show Young Ambassador.
