With the aim of promoting literacy, and the importance of reading, talking and singing to children from birth, the day had 18 activity stations with lots of fun for the kids.
There were well known local identities dressed as pirates reading stories, Wiradjuri songs and stories, craft, dance and drumming.
The theme of Book Week 2018 is Find Your Treasure, so students were doing just that in tubs of sand. Some found gold coins, some found scorpions and bugs.
There was an obstacle course, to be navigated to the tune of “We’re going on a bear hunt”, except of course it was a treasure hunt and at the end the treasure chest was full of books.
Committee member Maree Yapp was delighted that every school and childcare centre in Forbes, as well as schools at Bedgerabong and Eugowra, had joined the day.
Forbes High School students brought “the Three Little Pigs” to life in drama that all the kids enjoyed.
Raewyn Molloy added that the event, run by a committee of just four or five, could not go ahead without the support of volunteers from Red Bend Catholic College.
