A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for the region that may bring heavy rain, large hailstones and damaging winds.

The warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology at 4.15pm and it will impact large parts of the region.

“Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours,” the warning stated.

The NSW State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Move your car under cover or away from trees
  • Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
  • Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences
  • Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains
  • Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water

The warning said people should also unplug computers and appliances and avoid using the phone during the storm.

People should ensure their children and pets are kept indoors.

For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the NSW SES on 132 500. 

Rain has already been recorded across large parts of the region during the last 24 hours, with some locations receiving almost 20 millimetres.
