Last Saturday saw an all-Forbes grand final in the Under 14s between the Red Bend juniors and the Magpies juniors after the two clubs finished the season on top of the table.

Red Bend Junior Rugby League Club's claimed the premiership against the minor premiers, Junior Magpies, 26–22 after a strongly contested match.

Coach Paul Kelly, who worked with manager Jason Leadbitter, said the players had worked really hard over the year and had come a long way since the season began.

The Blues managed to rally after going down to the Magpies in the major semi-finals, producing their best performance of the year on grand final day.

“They’ve had to learn to play a few different positions and to play as a team. That’s what helped them win,” he said.

“Today was our best day of the year,” he added.

Kelly is confident of the 14s chances at a strong season next year, should the players decide to keep playing.

“If they keep improving the way they have, they’ll be hard to beat next year,” he said.

The try scorers for Red Bend were Billy Phillips, Oscar Ryan, Matty Duke, Campbell Branely and Lachlan Barnes. Khye Drady kicked three goals.
