Veteran’s Golf
The sunny and benign conditions brought many of the older golfers out to contest their weekly Veteran golf event, which last week was played at Parkes over 12 holes. For this week the ‘outside’ 12 holes were played, which meant a longer trek than normal for the 35 players who participated.
Parkes players dominated the play. The winner was Peter Unwin (P) with 29 points, ahead of Gordon Christie (P) with 27 points. Gordon got there on count back from Dave Williams (F), but there may have been some skullduggery going on.
Forbes did pick up the Bradman award, via Barry Parker who had a score he shall spend hours telling you about. The NTP’s went to: 4th hole A grade: Roy Bell (P), B grade: John Dwyer (P); 11th hole A grade: Gary Collits (F), B Grade John Smith (F).
The Mick Miller Shield was quite close, with Parkes on 156 edging Forbes on 150. No doubt local knowledge played a big part in the proceedings.
Thursday’s play this week will be ab 18-hole event at Grenfell. Grenfell has had more rain than around here so they do have grass to play on. A reminder to all that the Parkes ‘Vets Week of Golf’ commences on Monday 24, with registrations from Sunday 23.
The Tuesday Golfers group was well supported with 20 players enjoying their play, albeit a bit blowy. Ken Sanderson was in form, zipping around in 31 points. Vince Aieken was second on 29 and John Smith (28) used this as a warm up for The Vets on Thursday.
The Tuesday golf is on again today with ball toss at 9:30 am for playing partners. A warm welcome is extended to men and ladies for a quick hit and some good company. Call the Pro Shop on 6851 1554 for more information.
