Our talented International Officer Heather Veal organised a delicious Polish lunch for our members. Her guest speaker was Mick Harris from Parkes.
Mick entertained us by playing the Polish National Anthem on his piano accordion and spoke of his early years living in Poland.
The highlight of the day and a very big surprise for one of our members, Esther Moore, as she was presented with Life Membership by another one of our Life Members Ida McIntyre.
Our President Marion McIntyre said, “Esther has been a loyal member of Bogan Gate since the transfer of her membership when Yarrabandi branch closed. She consistently attends meetings even though age and distance can be tiring.
She is our quiet, reliable worker, always willing to help where necessary, always assists with caterings and can usually be found with a tea-towel in her hands.
Esther first attended CWA as a child accompanying her mother and joined at age 21.
She held the position of Yarrabandi treasurer for a least 21 years as well as being a Vice-President and a Councillor or Delegate to Group functions. She has represented Bogan Gate as a Councillor and Delegate. Each year, she takes her turn as hostess of a meeting, supplying a thought or current affairs topic, getting afternoon tea ready and always with a smile.
It is only recently that she has given up knitting socks for the over 80’s section of the handicraft competition.”
Esther was congratulated by fellow members, her sister Leslie Ridley from Forbes and friend Sharon Yetman from Yarrabandi.
