The organisation was established 1992 for the purpose of presenting alternate music and news programs to those presented by the ABC and Commercial Radio Stations in the area.
The music is mainly selected as easy listening music for the more mature aged listener. The station broadcasts at 4000 watts of power, 24 hours a day in FM Stereo.
They stream their programs all over the world on the World Wide Web.
2LVR’s studio, located on the Forbes Road, has a listening area that’s predominately the Forbes and Parkes Shire area, including all the villages and localities in the area and around the shires.
The station is completely run by volunteer staff, with the exception of one-part time office girl.
They have around 28 volunteers on their announcing staff who do regular time slots each week.
Announcers provide 15 hours of live programs each day. That’s around 105 hours a week and around 5250 hours per year, all voluntary. Announcers do their programs mainly from their own music collections. 2LVR’s total volunteer force is around 35 members, including the announcers.
The overnight programs are produced by a volunteer from the studios and CBAA morning programs are broadcast each day between 5am and 7am, and on Sunday between 5am and 9am. 2LVR broadcasts national news on the hour that it receives by satellite from 2UE in Sydney. Local news is produced in the studio by volunteers.
All community service announcements are produced by volunteers in the studios and are all free of charge to local community groups.
It costs a lot of money to keep the station on the air, 2LVR has many licenses and permits as to comply with all government regulations etc. They also have a fairly large power bill, plus general running and office costs.
The station’s main income comes from sponsors who advertise. Some sponsors have been with the organisation for many years. 2LVR also receives some government grants from time to time. And its annual member’s contribution also helps to keep them afloat. Why not become a member?
2LVR has around 250 paid members. They pay their membership each year and are a great support to the station. Membership is very cheap and the station is always looking for more if you can help. Only $10 per year or $15 per couple.
They are always looking for volunteers who can help, you don’t have to do any announcing, there are always things you can do to help, either, by selling tickets, helping at barbecues or just doing odd jobs around the studios.
And they are always looking for sponsors to support them.
