Fire and Rescue NSW and Parkes Police received reports of an explosion at the Civil Independence bitumen plant in Matthews Street at 7.34am.
Initial investigations suggest the explosion, which occurred in a dust extractor, was caused by a combination of dust and leaking diesel.
The external paint on the dust extractor caught fire and was quickly extinguished by staff members.
Fire fighters cooled the site and rendered it safe.
No one was injured and the plant was shut down while the damage is assessed.

Emergency services responded to a fire in a Bushman Street residence at midday on Tuesday.
When Parkes Fire and Rescue crew members arrived they found smoke coming from the rear of the home, a fire in the kitchen and heavy smoke throughout the house.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the kitchen area, however extensive damage was caused.
Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters remind the community to “Keep Looking While Your Cooking” and always have a working smoke alarm.
