A Forbes police spokeswoman said an emergency call was received by a Forbes woman on Sunday evening.
“A 72-year-old man was reported missing by his wife. She said he’d gone out to do some farm work and hadn’t returned by 6.30pm,” the spokeswoman said.
“At 9.30pm police attended the property and he was located in an old mine shaft.”
State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers were called to the scene to assist with the rescue.
“The SES retrieved him and he was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital,” she said.
Police said the man was in a serious but stable condition.
