Paul Griffin and friends from Sydney’s Hills district won the bidding in a charity auction Saturday for the breeches Bowman wore when Winx won the Winx Stakes in August.
The auction was one feature of a successful Spring race meeting, which saw the historic grandstand reopened after renovations funded by a Heritage Near Me grant.
The Jockey Club also held two raffles to raise funds for drought relief. While the raffle for the racing fraternity was drawn and won, the Jockey Club committee has decided to hold over the public raffle.
The Forbes Jockey Club did not realize the enormity of the donations Catherine Newcombe had received with the generous support of the local business community, honorary secretary Harvey Elliott said.
There simply were not the personnel to sell tickets to achieve the deserved finances for this very worthy cause.
They met and decided to continue selling tickets until closer to Christmas.
Those who would like a refund on tickets purchased Saturday can return them to the Jockey Club for a refund within two weeks.
