On Sunday, we are pleased to be kicking off the week of activities partnering with Parkes Shire Council and the Lachlan Valley Branch of the National Parks Association to host Breakfast with the Birds at on East Street End of PAC Park.
This event is an opportunity to celebrate the official opening of the renewed PAC Park Amenities funded by Social Housing Community Improvement Fund (NSW Government), which is a fantastic addition to the PAC Park area, adding to the fantastic work already completed in the area.
We will be launching into the Aussie Backyard Bird Count which starts October 22. If you don’t already have the App, go to the link on our website or facebook page. The surveys operate until October 28, provide information of birds across Australia and provides information on trends across the country. This is citizen science working to provide a snapshot of birdlife, recording native and non-native birds and we are thrilled to be participating once again.
After spending an hour or so at the wetland area for our Motley Crew Power Hour a couple of weekends ago, I am excited that others will get a chance to see and hear some of the fantastic bird life that is coming and going from the area. Check out the clips on our facebook page.
October 22-23 we will be holding kindy Enviro Days for Parkes Shire schools with a focus on catchments, water bugs and birds, water quality, and seedlings. We are pleased to be partnering with PSC once again to deliver these workshops to our lovely little kindies.
October 24 will be a walk along Goobang Creek with the National Parks Association, utilising the fantastic resource of bird enthusiasts that we have in the Parkes and Forbes Shires. Walkers are to meet at Lions Park in Parkes at 0900. This is a 6km Medium rated walk (average fitness level). Contact Martin Bell on 0429 346 586 the evening before the walk. Walkers are reminded to bring food and water, suitable clothing, footwear, hat and sunscreen. A $2 donation is appreciated.
October 25 will be an opportunity for local school students to join us after they finish school at 3.30pm at the Forbes Wiradjuri Cultural Centre for a bird walk and activities. We will be spotting woodland and water birds and checking out the habitats that they live in with the National Parks Association Lachlan Valley Branch.
October 26 we will be holding a children’s bird walk commencing at Bushman’s Dam (Kelly Reserve) in Parkes and walking through to Bushman’s Hill, also covering off on woodland and water birds.
Both children’s walks require parental/caregiver participation. Please RSVP for these activities to 02 6862 4914, cwllpo@hotmail.com or text 0418 611 053.
Until next week, happy Landcaring!
