However it has also been estimated by the same body that in the most available study over 93,000 of those diagnosed in 2009 were still alive in 2013.
Forbes Prostate Cancer Support Group has therefore decided to hold a men’s health night at which there will be four prominent guest speakers making presentations to inform those who are interested in finding out more about the second highest rate of cancer in Australia.
The evening will be held at the Forbes RSL Memorial Club on Wednesday, November 7 starting at 6.30pm and admission is just a gold coin donation.
Those speaking will be highly regarded Forbes GP Dr Neale Somes, Orange Urology specialist Dr Tim Nicholson, Bathurst based Oncologist specialist Dr Rob Zielinski and Orange based special Prostate Cancer Nurse, Lindy Ostini.
There will be a time for questions after each speaker but that will be kept short so as not to prolong the evening.
Given that it is anticipated the speakers may finish around 8.40pm another 20 minutes will be allowed for any more questions.
A similar evening was held at Parkes in March and an estimated 120 persons attended.
Forbes Prostate Cancer Support Group are advocates for women being involved in the journey of someone diagnosed with prostate cancer and they are encouraged to attend along with their husbands, partners etc.
