Ladies Bowling
Well what a great day we had at the Club last Tuesday for Melbourne Cup day. The ladies looked very up market in their lovely fascinators and most of the men joined in the fun by wearing their bow ties. The day started at 11am with mixed bowls before everyone was treated to a very enjoyable lunch of ham and chicken with very tasty salads and sweets supplied by the ladies.

Congratulations go to Lesley and her very merry band of most willing ‘girls’ (and ‘boys’) who never fail to hop in and support the Club. Well done everyone who lent a hand on the day. Not enough recognition goes to those who are always there to put their shoulder to the wheel when all occasions, big and small, call for it.
The winners of the bowls were Kay Toohey and Trevor Currey, runners-up were Glenys Ryan and Barry Shine. Anne Walker won the raffle and six lucky people took out the 100 Clubs. Best dressed lady and gentleman were Jenny Currey and Kevin Girot and a good time was had by all.
No bowls were played last Wednesday due to the very welcome rain but no-one was complaining. Since then two competition games have been played.
In the Veteran’s Singles, Noela Girot played some outstanding bowls to defeat Jan Waugh 25/9 and in the final of the Under 70’s game, Sandra Priest, who led most of the way, fell short at the end and was defeated by Lyn Simmonds 25/19. Congratulations everyone.
Tomorrow the next round of the Jones Trophy will be played when the local girls defend the trophy against Parkes Women’s Bowling Club. Morning tea is at 8.30am with games to commence around 9am.
Birthday wishes for this week go to Jan Waugh for the 16th and Ann Mackay for the 18th. We still have some work ahead of us before the year is over. The Ladies two day Pairs Carnival is to be held on Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2.
The Glad Johnson Memorial Day combined with our Presentation Day is to be held on December 5. Members of Glad’s family will be in attendance so we will need ladies to help make the day a success. This will be our last day of bowls for the year. The ladies end of year Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday, December 12. More later. Good bowling everyone.

Indoor Bowls
We traveled to Young for the fun day last Sunday every one had a great day of bowls. We were in all different teams what made it more interesting Sandy's team had four wins and still never got anything as the cards were put in to a box then some one picked a score card out for the ship then second and then lead so Sandy's team missed out. Liz England and Sue Smith won in the lucky numbers.
On Wednesday afternoon we had a good day winners for the day was Vera and Wilma two wins one draw 29 points runners up was Liz and Sue one win one draw and one lose 20 points.Chocolate went to a well we had two team with the same points of 17 was Betty Rees Joyce and Loraine also Joan Littlejohn and Sandy Hepburn.

Steady Play in Super 6s
The third round of the Forbes Golf Club Summer Sixers competition was characterised by steady scores and close but comfortable margins. The best team score for the round was 92.0 ,scored by Knigdragrabbitaiders (KDRR) in Pool 3,, with Forbes Toyota (Pool 2) not far behind on 95. This is great stuff so early in the comp, but possible may have a backlash in the handicaps. The best score in Pool 1was 105 scored by F Troop in their win over Bushrangers.
The best Members players overall were, Shirley Redfern and Greg Webb (both on 32), and Graham Newport with 33. The best Non-members scores were Casey Mindy (27), Rob Johnson (27.5) and Rob Dukes (30).
The ball winners were:
Pool 1 – R Johnson, T Bokeyar, G Newport, M Tooth, M Reid, J Ridley, T Armitage and R Baker.
Pool 2 – S Lewis, Angus Baker, G Webb, V Rebellato, D Barnes, D Earl, J Cutler and A Dukes.
Pool 3 – C Mundy, R Dukes, S Redfern, V Aitken, A Grogan, S Toole, S Staines, J Hurkett.
There was a good range of scores here (27 – 35), but fairly even across the Pools.
Progress in the Pools is quite good for most teams. In Pool 1 Hit n Miss (7.5) and F Troop (7) are currently unbeaten, while in Pool 2 Forbes Toyota (7) and in Pool 3 Cobblers Crew have won all their matches to date.
Unfortunately, Duffers and Kool Kats have not started well, with both teams yet to record a win. But perhaps patience will assist them to move above the worm line.
Forbes Toyota is looking strong, as are Hit n Miss. But we shall see how the form holds, especially as we head towards a holiday season which may see some players helping Santa out.
Already we are seeing some good sharp-shooting, with a number of players coming close to Holes-in-one. But there have not been any real celebrations yet.
The lovely evenings have encouraged the players out, with many teams finding the course congested on Thursday nights. But with even longer days occurring as we head towards the summer solstice, we may see some players go around twice, but remember your insect repellent. Forbes Golf

Veteran’s Golf
Peter Barnes was re-elected president of the Forbes Veteran Golfers Association which held their annual general meeting last Thursday after play in the weekly Forbes/Parkes 12 hole competition.
In his report Peter said it had been a year of mixed success with some new players while a few had left the ranks. However, overall playing numbers were up by approximately 100 on the previous year.
He added, also successful was the Forbes Vets Week of Golf which attracted 130 players with thanks for the success offered to Beryl and Lynnie Roberts and Geoff Haley plus members who assisted with maintenance of the course.
On a sadder note, Peter offered his thanks to Geoff Haley who stood down after many year of service to vets golf, on top of his works to Forbes golf in general.
Peter Barnes saw a well balanced committee elected to continue the push of veteran golfers over the coming 12 months with Alf Davies elected captain while Beryl Roberts was returned as secretary/treasurer.
Committee members elected were Allan Rees, Ken Sanderson, Lynnie Roberts, Frank Hanns and Garry Pymont.
Winner of the 'twin towns' 12 hole competition last Thursday was Forbes' youthful golfer Geoff Drane with 27 points while runner-up was Ron Luyt from Parkes on 26 points and count-back from Allan Rees of Forbes.
Encouragement award went to Parkes' Sunna Bell, but only just from Forbes couple Peter Barnes and Milton Cartwright.
Nearest the pins, 9th hole A grade Dale Stait (P), B grade John Whatmore (F), 18th hole Alf Davies (F), B grade Geoff Drane (F).
With 32 players Forbes came out on top in the Mick Miller Shield with 150 points to Parkes' 137. Golf on Thursday will be the monthly Lachlan Valley Vets Golf 18 holes which will be played in Cowra with noms from 9.30am for a 10am shot gun start.
Numbers were down slightly last Tuesday due to the threat of rain and Melbourne Cup. However, 15 still played the weekly 12 hole competition. Winner was John Smith with 30 points from Barry Toole, back as bright as ever in scoring 29 points.
Twelve holes again today with ball toss at 9am for playing partners before all mid-week golfers are invited to stay and enjoy a 'big banger sanger' and refresher after play in the Golfie Hotel. For more on Forbes golf contact the Pro Shop on 6851 1554.
