McHappy Day is the largest fundraiser for RMHC Australia nationally, raising funds for the charity, which provides a home-away-from home for families while their sick or injured child has treatment.
Since it first started in 1991, McHappy Day has raised more than $42 million.
Local mum Bobbie-Jo Green, who has been staying at Ronald McDonald House while her four-year-old son Eli has treatment for leukaemia, described it as a God-send.
“I don’t know what we’d have done without (Ronald McDonald House),” Bobbi-Jo said.
More than accommodation, it’s a community.
“You form friendships, there’s always someone nearby who’s going through what you are,” Bobbie-Jo said.
Eli had eight months of initial treatment. That finished in July and he’s now spending more time at home than away.
He’s doing really well, and looking forward to Maccas this Saturday.
