The day included games and activities such as soccer, cricket and face painting as well water fun for persons with disabilities and other guests.
The International Day of People with Disability has been a world-wide event since 1992, with this year’s theme being ‘Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.’
House With No Steps Individual Support Manager Kim Wright said there was a great turnout for the day with participants from House With No Steps and Currajong Disability Service visiting.
Ms Wright said it was a great day for everyone and was all about being inclusive, with anyone who wanted to jump into the pool for a swim able to, regardless of disability.
Dane Millerd from Currajong Disability Service said the participants who came from Currajong had a ball on the day and this event is one of the highlights on the calendar.
Mr Millerd said they had really good feedback from Currajong participants about the event.
“Dan Trout said it’s pretty good that there are people who recognise us and understand us on days like this,” Mr Millerd said.
Both Ms Wright and Mr Millerd said the Forbes Shire Council did an amazing job in organising the day of celebrations.
“I would like to say thank you to Council for putting it on, it was a huge success,” Ms Wright said.
