The club has formed after Forbes riders realised more and more of them were travelling to Dubbo to compete.
Ranch sorting, the new club’s secretary Melissa West explains, is growing in popularity as a family sport.
Riders work in pairs to enter an 18 metre round yard and draft numbered cattle out a gate in numerical order – it doesn’t require you to be the fastest on a horse, it’s all about your skill working with the cattle.
There’s been a rush of interest in the new club.
It has taken them a while to get up and running due to the difficulty of finding numbers of cattle this year, but there’s been a lot of interest in this Saturday’s clinic.
The club advertised the clinic, and promptly had to expand it as it booked out.
They’re expecting 30 riders, as young as 10 and 12 years old.
Everyone is welcome to head over to the Pony Club grounds for a look: there’s plenty of shady spots, there will be a canteen and coffee available.
The training clinic will run throughout the morning, and there’ll be a round robin competition in the afternoon.
Organisers will be wearing committee t-shirts, approach them if you’d like to find out more.
You can also like and follow their Facebook page, Forbes Sorting and Penning, to keep up to date.
They’re hoping to have another clinic early next year before their first competition day in March 2019.
The fledging club would appreciate any support, either financial sponsorship or with supplying cattle, that you can offer.
