Last Wednesday we had our Christmas Party because we have been saving $1 a week and what a fabulous feed. We shared with the ladies and they supplied the salads and sweets. We even had some awards to present. The most travelled player clocking up 1998 klm for the year was Jim Malloy, just ahead of Bill O’Connell who travelled 1848 Klm to play each Wednesday. The most regular players went to Bill O’Connell and Laurie Crouch, while the runners up for regularity were Fred Vogelsang and Christian West.
Awarded for best organisers were Alf Davies, Ray Dunstan and Geoff Williams. Our most improved players went to Denis Byrnes and Eddie Gould as their game has improved out of sight.
There was a prize for the best friendly banter but we had to award three as they could not be split: Ray Drabsch, Barry Shine and Kerry Dunstan.
The final award went to our rising star, Trevor Currey. Trevor scored the highest number of points during the year.
Prior to lunch we had the usual games filling six rinks. We were pleased to welcome Jim McLuckie back and note he had a win. Ernie Egan made a comeback. Well done all.
Thursday afternoon: Last Thursday’s results are Bobby Grant and Glen Kearney defeated by 26:15 John Kennedy and Viv Russell. Bill Looney and Darryl Griffiths had a 20:13 victory against Harvey Elliott and Peter Hocking. In a triples game Cliff Nelson, Tony Bratton and Scott McKellar returned with a 26:14 win from Allan Hilder, Grant Lambert and Christian West. Well done gents.
Friday night: Last Friday night Billy Brown and Rob Priest combined well with a 17:12 win from Ann Mackay and Grant Lambert. Sandra Priest and Barry Wright played well for a close v14:13 victory from Anne Walker and Peter Mackay. The Three Amigos annihilated the Bedgerebong 1 team by 17:2. HE Silos picked up a 13:9 win against the Long Shots.
The Bentick Trophy: John Kennedy had a win by 23:18 against Bobby Grant. Al Phillips scored well at 22:3 for a win against Lyall Strudwick. Looks like Greg Ward scraped home with a close victory against Grant Lambert.
Sunday morning: Last Sunday there were plenty of classic players on the greens by 10.00. John Cutler and Viv Russell scored 15:8 against Paul Baker and Laurie Crouch. Pat Hodson and John Bentick turned the tide with a 23:6 victory against Fred Vogelsang and Al Phillips. Don Hodson, Cliff Nelson and Alan Smith won by 14:7 against Pater Greenhalgh, Alan Affleck and Bob McGinty. Rodney Howarth and John Kennedy had an 18:14 victory against the stayers Clive Herbert and Kerry Smith.
A & B Pairs: The winners of the next game between Bert Bayley & John Williams verses Cliff Nelson & Alf Davies will play Russell Hodge and Ray Dunstan.
Presentation: The presentation of championship polo shirts was held last Sunday. Next year presentation day will be different as we had a very poor attendance. Those who did attend were happy to receive their awards and enjoyed a nice lunch.
The Christmas raffle will be drawn on Sunday 23rd December after the final of the Bentick Trophy.
Please note there is no Moxey Mini Pairs Saturday.
Enjoy your bowls and have a very Happy Christmas.
